Merced County SELPA

​All 20 school districts in Merced County and the Merced County Office of Education have joined together to participate in the Merced County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA). The Merced County SELPA serves approximately 7,300 individuals with exceptional needs, providing special education and related services. Laura Fong, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent, Special Education Department is the SELPA Director.

 

The Merced County Office of Education has been designated the Administrative Unit of the Merced County SELPA. The Merced County SELPA is committed to providing free appropriate public education, including special education instruction and/or support services, to any eligible student.  Appropriate special education services are provided within the geographical area of the Merced County SELPA through a full continuum of program options for children birth to 22 years of age.

 

The Merced County SELPA responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring program availability for all children with disabilities
  • Curriculum/program development support
  • Surrogate parent training
  • Community Advisory Committee support
  • Special Education Management Information System
  • Personnel Development
  • Fiscal management/monitoring
  • Community Awareness
